The Olympic Games

The Olympic Games bring a lot of countries together by sports. It’s a time to put away all of our differences and show off what we are best at. The Olympic games mean to me, a lot of countries that want to show off their skills to the world, a time where people can be known for what they are talented at, their gift in life. The Games are a big deal to me because I have been watching them since I was a kid. Most of my idols are in the Olympics like, Shawn Johnson, Misty May- Treanor and Kerri Walsh. When I them performing what they love it amazes me because I know them must have worked really hard to be where they are now. I know if I work hard at what I love, I can achieve and make my dream true. I believe that the Chinese want the gold so bad and they train their people so hard to get them to bet everyone. Four years ago in the 2008 Summer Olympics, there was a Chinese girl competing on bars, for gymnastics, she was amazing, she would jump from the high bar to the low bar like she could do it in the sleep, but then she fell on one of her flips and she started to cry. She was not hurt so she got back up and finished. When she was done and saluted to the judges her coach gave her a hug but she was really upset. The reason she was upset was because the government was helping her family out by giving them money because she was competing in the Olympics for them, she was taking away from her family to train for the Olympics for years. She was scared that the government would be mad at her for falling and would stop giving her family money to survive.
I believe the Olympics should not be about wining, but about being with other great athletes and celebrating about being together. The United States of America doesn’t care if you fall on the bars or tripping in a race; it’s about representing, showing off and having fun! If I were in the Olympics I would want to compete either in gymnastics or volleyball. I would want to compete gymnastics because I love the sport, well only floor. The only problem about gymnastics is you can get hurt really easily and really badly, like one year in the Olympics a team was practicing for the next day and she was doing vault. When she was flipping over the vault she landed on her back and died instantly because her spin broke. For volleyball I like the sand volleyball with only two people on a team. I like volleyball but I don’t like school volleyball. Watching Misty May- Treanor and Kerri Walsh on the sand diving all over the place is really sweet. I love their enthusiasm and excitement in the Olympics. They are truly a crowd pleaser and everyone loves watching them. That’s what I would like to do if I went to the Olympics, I want to create a show for everyone watching, I want people to love watching and not care about winning a gold or silver metal. The Olympic Games to me would be amazing and a great opportunity, they are about celebrating everyone being together and the great talent we are gifted with.
